Great news for IBERO's academic journals!

This recognition is great news for our University. The inclusion of these publications in the SNPCyH strengthens the visibility, recognition, and positioning of our journals within the national ecosystem of scientific and humanistic publications, and helps expand the circulation of and access to the knowledge produced and disseminated by IBERO.

In the words of Siham El Khoury, who coordinates the university's journals from Ediciones IBERO:

"The new SECIHTI framework in Mexico is an opportunity for contextualized evaluation. SECIHTI's new guidelines for the National System of Scientific and Humanistic Publications (SNPCyH) are especially relevant because they respond to several important discussions in the field, such as the need to develop comprehensive, equitable, and contextualized systems; they also recognize different degrees of consolidation without ranking journals by citation or impact indicators, and insist that quality cannot be reduced to a sum of quantitative elements; it must be assessed in terms of integrity, coherence, consistency, and contribution to the public good of knowledge.

The SNPCyH is now defined as a public policy instrument aimed at evaluating and recognizing Mexican open-access scientific and humanistic journals, based on academic and editorial integrity, diversity and inclusion, and with the purpose of strengthening a non-commercial publishing model and guaranteeing free, open, and equitable access to knowledge. It also emphasizes knowledge as a public good, open access, diversity, and the social relevance of scientific and humanistic output. This marks an important shift. The recognition of a journal is no longer framed as a simple hierarchical classification based on metrics, but rather as a contextualized evaluation of its editorial soundness."

The results of this call also recognize the sustained work of the editorial teams, boards, authors, reviewers, and collaborators who make each journal possible, and reaffirm IBERO's commitment to rigorous, relevant, and socially meaningful research, as well as to its dissemination and accessibility for academic communities and increasingly broad audiences.

Valeria Villalobos Guízar, who leads Ediciones IBERO, shares that:

"Being part of this new, more open SNPCyH is an excellent first step toward beginning to address various contemporary debates around academic publishing. The discussion on indexing, responsible evaluation, open science, and the de-provincialization of knowledge is not foreign to IBERO's identity. Part of our university's mission is to contribute to a freer, more solidary, just, and inclusive society through the development and dissemination of rigorous knowledge; so the question of how that knowledge is evaluated is not secondary—it is part of how the university decides which knowledge it recognizes, which research it promotes, which voices it amplifies, and which forms of impact it considers valuable. From an Ignatian perspective, academic excellence cannot be reduced to the accumulation of outputs, individual competition, or prestige measured solely by dominant or hegemonic indicators."

Congratulations to all the journals and, especially, to the teams behind them! This achievement is a collective one and a very important step forward in strengthening IBERO's academic publications.
